New Conditions For Coverage: Are You Prepared?

On November 13, 2008 the Network of New England hosted a technical assistance meeting on the new Conditions for Coverage at the Sturbridge Host Hotel in Sturbridge,MA.

The new ESRD Conditions for Coverage (CFC) places major responsibilities for what occurs directly or indirectly on the Medical Director and the dialysis leadership team. Most of these new requirements became effective October 14, 2008.

• Do you know your new responsibilities?
• Do you know all the elements that your new Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) Program must contain?
• Do you know the new procedures for involuntary discharges?
• Do you understand all the new technical requirements?
• Are you prepared to assume the new governance functions?

The learning curve may be steep for understanding these requirements as well as the interpretive guidelines that state surveyors will be using. It is imperative to be prepared and to have the tools and/or resources needed to fulfill all the provisions stated in the CFC. We all need to help each other during this transition phase.
