Hand Hygiene (Infection Control)

OBJECTIVE:   To increase awareness of the importance of hand hygiene for clinic staff and patients.
ACTIVITIES REQUIRED FOR DIAMOND STATUS:
  • Complete an in-service training module (PowerPoint Presentation) on hand hygiene basics.
  • Have patient care staff sign the Hand Hygiene pledge.
OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES:
  • Provide the CDC's Guidelines for Hand Hygiene in Health Care Settings to facility staff and offer them the opportunity to complete a post-test
  • Develop policies for hand hygiene and for monitoring hand washing
  • Distribute word search on hand hygiene to patients
  • Declare one day as "Clean Hands Day" and post a proclamation
  • Order a GloGerm mini-kit designed to teach proper hand washing techniques to 25 people
